CBS/KCBS) SANTA ANA - A 20-year-old California woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to stabbing her newborn daughter to death two years ago.

Yoselin Torres Tovar of Fullerton pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with a sentencing enhancement for using a deadly weapon, reports CBS Los Angeles. The plea came as attorneys were set to make opening statements Tuesday.

Tovar gave birth to her daughter on April 18, 2010 in the bathroom of her family's home in Fullerton, Deputy District Attorney Steve McGreevy reportedly said when charges were filed two years ago.

According to CBS Los Angeles, McGreevy said Tovar stabbed the newborn multiple times before wrapping up the body and putting it in her bedroom closet. Family members noticed blood on Tovar and took her to a nearby hospital, where physicians determined she had just given birth.

According to a press release, police were notified and later found the baby's body.

Tovar is expected to be given 16 years to life in prison when she is sentenced on June 1, CBS Los Angeles reports.
